Artists and entities: deadline of 15 September 2026 to submit applications for the National Visual Arts and Photography Awards

The Ministry of Culture has announced the 2026 National Visual Arts and Photography Awards, intended to recognise works produced in 2025 or professional career achievements (art. First.1). Each award carries a grant of 30,000 euros (art. Second.1). There is an express prohibition on awarding works created entirely by generative artificial intelligence (art. First.2.c).

In 3 key points

  1. Grant of 30,000 euros for the National Visual Arts Award and 30,000 euros for the Photography Award, art. Second.1 (art. Segundo.1)
  2. Application deadline until 15 September 2026, art. Fifth (art. Quinto)
  3. Entry into force on the day following its publication, art. Ninth (art. Noveno)

How it affects those involved

For artists, entities, and professional teams within the cultural sector, the regulation offers an opportunity for recognition and a financial grant of 30,000 euros per category (art. Second.1). Professional teams may share the amount without it being considered a division of the prize (art. Second.2). Creators are warned that the exclusive use of generative AI excludes them from being eligible for the award (art. First.2.c).
