Basque Country: Management of non-contributory family benefits to transfer to the Autonomous Community from 1 January 2027

The agreement has been published for the Basque Autonomous Community to assume management of non-contributory family benefits and the non-contributory birth and childcare subsidy (Order TMD/174/2026). This transfer is carried out in accordance with the fifth transitional provision of the Statute of Autonomy for the Basque Country and Royal Legislative Decree 8/2015.

In 2 key points

  1. Effectiveness of the management transfer from 1 January 2027 (Orden TMD/174/2026)
  2. Assumption of management for non-contributory family benefits and the non-contributory birth and childcare subsidy (Orden TMD/174/2026)

How it affects those involved

For residents in the Basque Country, the management of these social benefits will transfer from the General State Administration to the regional administration starting in 2027 (Order TMD/174/2026). This implies a change in the entity responsible for processing and resolving non-contributory family benefits and birth subsidies within that territory.
