Owners and users in Peramola: climbing, camping and fires prohibited near Roc del Rumbau

The Generalitat Government has defined the protection zone for the Roc del Rumbau rock art complex in Peramola (Alt Urgell), which is a Cultural Asset of National Interest (art. 1). The measure establishes a protection perimeter covering public and private spaces as well as the subsoil (art. 2). Strict restrictions are imposed on land interventions and specific uses are prohibited to ensure the preservation of the site (art. 2.2).

In 3 key points

  1. Climbing, camping and fires are prohibited in the archaeological zone area, art. 2.2.b (art. 2.2.b)
  2. Prior authorisation is required for excavations, earthworks, road repairs or changes in land use, art. 2.2.a (art. 2.2.a)
  3. The protection zone covers a total area of 36 ha, including public and private spaces and the subsoil, art. 1 (art. 1)

How it affects those involved

For landowners within the perimeter (36 ha), any action affecting the subsoil, land levelling, re-parceling, or change of use requires prior authorisation from the Department of Culture (art. 2.2.a). Users of the area are no longer permitted to engage in climbing, camping, or making fires within the archaeological zone (art. 2.2.b). The installation of new electrical infrastructure or visible pipelines that alter the view of the site is prohibited (art. 2.2.d).
