Alicante court to handle women's violence cases from 10 February 2026

The 27 January 2026 agreement redesigns the Alicante Provincial Court's specialization, granting it exclusive jurisdiction over women's violence cases under Articles 80.3, 82 and 82 bis.2 of Law 6/1985. This change takes effect from 10 February 2026 and reorganizes the allocation of responsibilities for vulnerable women's protection.

In 2 key points

  1. The First Section in Alicante will have exclusive jurisdiction over cases of gender-based violence (art. 80.3, 82 y 82 bis.2 LO 6/1985)
  2. The change comes into effect on 10 February 2026 (disposición final)

How it affects those involved

Claimants of gender-based violence must submit their cases to the First Section in Alicante from 10 February 2026. Judicial administrations in other courts must redirect these cases. Legal professionals should update their sector-specific guidance on jurisdiction. Victim advisers must inform victims about the new legal access point.
