Córdoba designated as main headquarters for the Technical Accident Investigation Authority (rail, maritime and aviation)

The Council of Ministers has determined that the municipality of Córdoba (Andalusia) will host the main headquarters of the Independent Administrative Authority for the Technical Investigation of Railway, Maritime and Civil Aviation Accidents and Incidents (art. 6.7 RD 209/2022). The decision follows an analysis of the bids from Córdoba and Málaga. Until the final location is established, the Authority will maintain its provisional headquarters in Madrid (sixth additional provision of the Organic Statute).

In 3 key points

  1. Córdoba is the municipality chosen for the Authority's main headquarters (Acuerdo Consejo de Ministros 9 de junio de 2026)
  2. The Córdoba City Council has one year to propose a more suitable and cost-effective building (Dictamen Comisión Consultiva)
  3. The headquarters will remain provisionally in Madrid until the final determination (disp. adicional sexta Estatuto orgánico)

How it affects those involved

For the Córdoba City Council, the decision entails the obligation to propose a more suitable building that reflects its institutional status and offers lower operating costs within one year (Consultative Commission Opinion). If no option is agreed upon within this period, a new decentralisation procedure will be initiated. For the Authority, the physical headquarters will move from Madrid to Córdoba, although it will remain in the capital on a provisional basis until the final determination.
