Shipowners with vessels in the Alborán census: extension of fishing authorisation until new update

The validity of the census of vessels authorised for professional fishing using small-scale gear and bottom longline in the Isla de Alborán Marine Reserve and Fishing Reserve is extended (Resolution of 19 May 2023). This extension remains in effect until a new update is published in the BOE, which will be carried out within a maximum period of two months (First).

In 2 key points

  1. New update of the census in the BOE within a maximum period of two months, First. (Primero)
  2. Possibility of authorising vessels without clearance or without registration in the Register following their reactivation, Second. (Segundo)

How it affects those involved

Shipowners with vessels included in the previous census who currently do not have a clearance or are not registered in the Register of the Operational Fishing Fleet are permitted to apply for authorisation to carry out fishing once they have reactivated them (Second). The measure ensures the continuity of fishing activities in the Alborán fishing grounds during the transition period towards the new census.
