Election campaign suppliers: recommendation to provide information to the Court of Auditors if invoicing exceeds €10,000

The Joint Commission for Relations with the Court of Auditors has approved the resolution regarding the audit report for the July 2023 elections. The resolution urges the Government to regulate microcredit financing and to assess the efficiency of electoral propaganda mailings. Furthermore, companies that have invoiced more than 10,000 euros for campaign operations are advised to provide the necessary information to the Court of Auditors within the electoral accounting submission deadlines (point 7).

In 3 key points

  1. Recommendation to provide information to the Court of Auditors if invoicing exceeds 10,000 euros per election campaign, point 7 (punto 7)
  2. Request to the Government to regulate microcredits with a limit per lender and repayment within one calendar year, point 3 (punto 3)
  3. Proposal for the centralised procurement of envelopes and ballot papers to save resources and promote sustainability, point 4 (punto 4)

How it affects those involved

For companies providing services to political groups, proactive collaboration with the Court of Auditors is recommended if turnover exceeds 10,000 euros, in order to avoid discrepancies in the auditing of electoral accounts (point 7). For political parties, the resolution suggests changes in microcredit management, the obligation to deposit funds into electoral bank accounts, and the possibility of centralised procurement of envelopes and ballot papers to reduce costs (points 3 and 4).
