Beef cattle farms: technical and management requirements for agricultural insurance access

This Order establishes the minimum technical farming and management conditions required for beef cattle farms to access insurance under the Combined Agricultural Insurance Plan (Art. 1). It defines the infrastructure, animal welfare, and facility management requirements necessary for insurability. These conditions shall apply to both the 45th and 48th Combined Agricultural Insurance Plans.

In 3 key points

  1. REGA code requirement for insurable farm status, Art. 1.1.a (art. 1.1.a)
  2. Obligation to have alarm and backup systems for artificial ventilation, Art. 1.2.g (art. 1.2.g)
  3. Mandatory daily inspection of automatic or mechanical animal welfare equipment, Art. 1.2.f (art. 1.2.f)

How it affects those involved

For beef cattle farmers, compliance with these regulations is a sine qua non condition for agricultural insurance coverage (Art. 1). They must ensure their farms hold a REGA code (Art. 1.1.a), comply with bovine farm regulations (Art. 1.1.b), and maintain ventilation systems equipped with alarms and backup options (Art. 1.2.g). Failure to meet animal welfare standards or equipment maintenance requirements could invalidate the farm's status as an insurable entity.
