Fishing vessels: maximum red shrimp catch limits per vessel for 2026

The General Secretariat of Fisheries has established catch limits for the ARA/GF1-7 red shrimp stock for the 2026 period. This measure imposes a maximum catch limit to ensure the sustainability of the population in the western Mediterranean, following recommendations from the GFCM and Regulation (EU) 2026/266. Spain's total quota is increased through the transfer of 22,562 kg of unconsumed quota from 2025.

In 2 key points

  1. Maximum catch limit for Spain set at 708.3 tonnes for the year 2026, under Regulation (EU) 2026/266. (Reglamento (UE) 2026/266)
  2. Transfer of 22,562 kg from the 2025 quota to the 2026 available quota. (Texto fuente)

How it affects those involved

For shipowners and fishing vessels operating in CGPM geographical sub-areas 1, 2, 5, 6, and 7, the regulation imposes an individual catch ceiling per vessel that must be strictly observed throughout 2026. Non-compliance with these limits would affect fishing effort management and stock sustainability. Quota availability is bolstered by the carry-over from the previous year.
