Council of Ministers: deadline to decide headquarters for State Public Health Agency extended to 18 August 2026

The Council of Ministers has cancelled the urgent processing procedure for determining the physical headquarters of the State Public Health Agency (AESP) (First Agreement). As the grounds for urgency no longer apply, the general six-month period stipulated in Royal Decree 209/2022 will be used, which is further extended by three months to allow for the technical assessment of the eight candidacies received (Second Agreement).

In 3 key points

  1. The urgent processing procedure, which halved the deadlines, has been cancelled (First Agreement). (Acuerdo Primero)
  2. The maximum deadline for the adoption and publication of the decision is extended until 18 August 2026 (Second Agreement). (Acuerdo Segundo)
  3. No appeal shall lie against the agreement to extend the deadlines (Second Agreement). (Acuerdo Segundo)

How it affects those involved

For entities or interested parties that submitted candidacies for the AESP headquarters, the procedure is prolonged, allowing for a more detailed technical assessment of the proposals (Second Agreement). For the Administration, the strictness of the reduced urgent deadlines is removed, setting 18 August 2026 as the deadline for the reasoned decision and its publication (Second Agreement).
