The General Secretariat for Fisheries has updated the census and fishing opportunities for the deep-sea, ultra-deep-sea, and longline fleets (both over and under 100 gross tonnes) operating within the North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission (Art. 1). The resolution establishes initial 2026 quotas based on the Total Allowable Catches (TAC) agreed upon by the EU and the UK (Art. 3). Saithe quotas in Divisions 8a, 8b, 8d, and 8e are restricted exclusively to by-catches (Art. 3).

In 2 key points

  1. Saithe (Pollachius pollachius) quotas in Divisions 8a, 8b, 8d, and 8e are strictly for by-catches (Art. 3). (art. Tercero)
  2. Fishing opportunities and effort coefficients will come into force on 1 January 2026 (Art. 1). (art. Primero)

How it affects those involved

For shipowners and entities within the deep-sea and longline fleets, the regulation defines the permitted catch volumes and assigned fishing effort for the 2026 period (Art. 1). Vessels without fishing opportunities or effort as specified in Annexes I and II will be identified in Annex III. Any quota surpluses or deductions will be distributed via a subsequent communication to this resolution (Art. 3).
