System operator: extension of the demand voltage control project authorised until 31 January 2027

The CNMC has authorised a further twelve-month extension for the regulatory demonstration project regarding electric demand voltage control (DCOOR/DE/004/23). This extension aims to prevent the loss of reactive power consumption potential from participating demand while a new service is being developed (Backgrounds Sixth and Fifth). The objective is to incentivise consumer participation in modulating their energy activity to enhance system security (Fifth Considerations).

In 2 key points

  1. Extension of the demand voltage control project until 31 January 2027, Fifth Considerations. (Consideraciones Quinto)
  2. The project seeks to incentivise demand participation in the injection and consumption of reactive energy, Fifth Considerations. (Consideraciones Quinto)

How it affects those involved

For the system operator, the extension allows for the maintenance of reactive power consumption potential and an increase in the number of participants until 31 January 2027 (Fifth Considerations). For participating demand (consumers/entities), the project serves as an incentive to modulate their energy activity and reduce costs, although it is noted that the current remuneration for service PO7.4 is insufficient (Fifth Considerations).
