Gulf of Cádiz purse seiners: 10,938-tonne anchovy quota allocation for 2026

The General Secretariat for Fisheries has established the individual allocation of the anchovy quota (stock ANE/9SX3411) for the Gulf of Cádiz purse seine fleet for the 2026 season. Spain is allocated 10,938 tonnes out of a total TAC of 11,276 tonnes (EU Regulation 2025/202). Fishing activities are restricted to the period between 1 February and 30 November 2026, in compliance with the mandatory seasonal closure (Order AAA/1406/2016).

In 3 key points

  1. Spanish quota of 10,938 tonnes allocated to the Gulf of Cádiz purse seine fleet (Antecedentes)
  2. Permitted fishing period: from 1 February to 30 November 2026 (Antecedentes)
  3. Mandatory seasonal closure from 1 December to 31 January (Order AAA/1406/2016) (Antecedentes)

How it affects those involved

For shipowners and companies within the Gulf of Cádiz purse seine fleet, the regulation defines their maximum catch capacity for 2026 through specific percentages and allocations (Annex I). Vessels that fail to reach the minimum 1% threshold required to remain in the Iberian sardine and anchovy fishery are excluded from the allocation (Annex II). The final quota may be subject to adjustments (surpluses or deductions) once the 2025 season consumption data is finalised on the Gestcuotas website.
