Demersal longline vessels: individual southern hake quota allocation for the 2026 campaign

The General Secretariat for Fisheries has established individual southern hake (HKE/8C3411) quotas for demersal longline vessels in the Cantabrian and North-West fishing grounds for 2026. The distribution is based on landings from the previous campaign and will be adjusted following the closure of 2025 consumption data on the Gestcuotas website. Vessels with less than a 1% fishing probability will lose their authorisation for the hake fishery (Art. 3.3.a of Order APA/315/2020).

In 1 key point

  1. Vessels with less than a 1% fishing probability must cease hake fishing activities (Art. 3.3.a of Order APA/315/2020). (art. 3.3.a de la Orden APA/315/2020)

How it affects those involved

For demersal longline vessel owners, the regulation defines the permitted catch volume for 2026 based on their fishing history. Vessels that do not meet the minimum threshold of a 1% fishing probability are excluded from the hake fishery, even if they remain on the census for this gear type (Art. 3.3.a of Order APA/315/2020). The total quota allocated to Spain for this stock is 10,982 tonnes, of which 1,008 tonnes are assigned to the demersal longline census in the Cantabrian and North-West areas.
