The 2026 'General Gutiérrez Mellado' Extraordinary Defence Award has been announced to recognise literary, artistic, or scientific works or careers that contribute to defence culture, peace, and the image of the Armed Forces (art. 1.1). The award comprises a bronze figure of Miguel de Cervantes, a diploma, and a sum of 18,000 euros (art. 1.5). The granting of the award is governed by Order DEF/395/2019 (exordium).
For individuals or legal entities distinguished in the dissemination of defence culture, an institutional recognition and a sum of 18,000 euros are established (art. 1.5). It is important to note that candidates or applicants may not submit their own applications; the selection is made at the initiative of the Minister of Defence (art. 1.3).
