Canary Islands: direct grant awarded to fund the Canary Primary Sector Boost Plan

Royal Decree 639/2026 regulates the direct award of a grant to the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands to fund the Canary Primary Sector Boost Plan. The measure is based on public, social, and economic interest to mitigate production costs arising from insularity and climate vulnerability (Art. 22.2.c of Law 38/2003). The objective is the modernisation of infrastructure and equipment within the agricultural and fishing sectors.

In 1 key point

  1. Direct award based on public, social, economic, or humanitarian interest (Art. 22.2.c of Law 38/2003) (art. 22.2.c de la Ley 38/2003)

How it affects those involved

For the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, this provides additional resources for the recovery and reactivation of its productive sectors. For companies and holdings in the primary sector (agriculture, livestock, and fishing) across the archipelago, the regulation enables the financing of projects to renew or modernise infrastructure, improving productivity and sustainability against the structural fragility of the island environment.
