Ávila Beef PGI producers: two-month period opened to oppose amendment to product specifications

The Directorate-General for Food has approved a standard amendment to the product specifications for the 'Carne de Ávila' Protected Geographical Indication (PGI). This modification follows a coordination process between the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and various autonomous communities, which included studying the crossbreeding of the Angus breed with the Avileña Negra-Ibérica. A two-month opposition period is now open to any interested party, starting the day after publication in the BOE.

How it affects those involved

For producers and operators linked to the 'Carne de Ávila' PGI, the regulation allows for the potential updating of production conditions, including the introduction of new breeds or crossbreeds (Art. 8.2 RD 1335/2011). Interested parties have two months to file an opposition to the proposed amendment. If no oppositions are received, the application will be resolved favourably in compliance with European Union regulations (Art. 4.5 Delegated Regulation (EU) 2025/27).
