Resolution of 29 June 2026, of the General Secretariat for Fisheries, publishing the anchovy quota for zone 9a (stock ANE/9WX10)

The anchovy catch quota for stock ANE/9WX10 in zone 9a has been established for the period from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027. Due to a 29% decrease in estimated biomass, the Total Allowable Catch (TAC) is reduced to 16,323 tonnes, with Spain allocated 10% (1,632 tonnes). Purse seine vessels in the Cantabrian and North-West fishing grounds may utilise this quota during the specified period.

In 3 key points

  1. Spanish quota assigned of 1,632 tonnes of ANE/9WX10 anchovy (Antecedentes y fundamentos de Derecho)
  2. 25-tonne limit for by-catch by seine, beach seine, and lift net vessels in 2026 (Antecedentes y fundamentos de Derecho)
  3. Period of validity from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027 (Antecedentes y fundamentos de Derecho)

How it affects those involved

For purse seine vessels in the Cantabrian and North-West fishing grounds, anchovy fishery availability remains, albeit under a lower biomass scenario that reduces the total TAC by 29% compared to the previous period. Authorised seine, beach seine, and lift net vessels are limited to a maximum by-catch of 25 tonnes for the 2026 season. The Spanish quota of 1,632 tonnes is subject to potential adjustments following the publication of Regulation (EU) 2026/249 and the finalisation of consumption data from the previous period.
