Cava PDO producers: amendment to the product specification approved

The Directorate General for Food has approved the amendment to the product specification for the 'Cava' Protected Designation of Origin (points 4, 8.b.i and 8.b.x). The changes include a new definition for the location of 'paraje calificado' plots, a reference to internal rules for vineyard registration, and the regulation of the 'Elaborador Integral' distinction. These amendments comply with Regulation (EU) 2024/1143 and Royal Decree 1335/2011.

In 2 key points

  1. New delimitation of 'paraje calificado' plots through reference to the winery's smaller geographical unit (point 4). (punto 4)
  2. Regulation of the 'Elaborador Integral' distinction, subject to the validity of the recognition and internal rules (point 8.b.x). (punto 8.b.x)

How it affects those involved

For Cava PDO makers and producers, the regulation introduces greater rigour regarding the geographical delimitation of plots and vineyard registration through reference to the Regulatory Council's internal rules (points 4 and 8.b.i). Additionally, holders of the 'Elaborador Integral' distinction must comply with the new validity and accreditation requirements established in the internal regulations (point 8.b.x).
