Cantabria and Extremadura urged to align forest fire prevention plans with current regulations

The Joint Committee for Relations with the Court of Auditors has adopted the recommendations of an audit report regarding forest fire management in Cantabria and Extremadura. The resolution urges both autonomous communities to comply with Law 43/2003 on Forests, specifically concerning the incorporation of forest planning recommendations and the marking of infrastructure subject to easements in annual prevention plans (Art. 48.5.a and 48.5.b).

In 2 key points

  1. Cantabria must incorporate forest planning recommendations and mark infrastructure with easements, pursuant to Art. 48.5.a and 48.5.b of Law 43/2003 (art. 3)
  2. Extremadura must include in its plans the justification for intensifying operations and the requirements of Art. 48.4.i of Law 43/2003 (art. 6)

How it affects those involved

For the administrations of Cantabria and Extremadura, the resolution exerts institutional pressure to rectify deficiencies in their annual fire prevention, surveillance, and extinction plans. Cantabria must ensure surveillance resources cover its entire territory and regulate uses with fire risk (Art. 5). Extremadura must justify the intensification of operations based on weather conditions and other factors (Art. 6).
