Fishing vessels: modification of scientific catch distribution for the 2026 campaign

The General Secretariat for Fisheries has amended the Resolution of 14 April 2026 to include the scientific catch distribution for various stocks that were pending verification (Art. 2). The new distribution covers stocks such as ANF/8C3411, HKE/8C3411, and others, applying the restriction that no catches shall be allocated to vessels exceeding their assigned quotas (Art. 4.6 of Order APA/441/2023). Furthermore, it specifies that for stock SBR/678, scientific catch must be exclusively by-catch, in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2026/249.

In 3 key points

  1. Exclusion of vessels exceeding their assigned quotas for the affected stocks, Art. 4.6 of Order APA/441/2023 (art. 4.6 de la Orden APA/441/2023)
  2. Scientific catch for stock SBR/678 must be exclusively by-catch, Regulation (EU) 2026/249 (Reglamento (UE) 2026/249)
  3. Entry into force upon publication for the entire 2026 campaign (disposicion final)

How it affects those involved

For vessels authorised for voluntary scientific campaigns, the resolution establishes the specific kilograms of scientific catch permitted for the 2026 campaign (Annex I). Vessels that have exceeded their assigned quotas for the affected stocks are excluded from the distribution (Art. 4.6 of Order APA/441/2023). For stock SBR/678, vessels must ensure that the catch is by-catch and not targeted, following European regulations (Regulation (EU) 2026/249).
