Deep-sea and high-sea fleets: quota allocation following stock swaps with the United Kingdom

The General Secretariat for Fisheries has resolved the allocation of quotas resulting from a stock swap with the United Kingdom under the Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA). The swap involves the transfer of 65 tonnes of grenadier (stock LIN/6X14) and 65 tonnes (stock LIN/*04-C) in exchange for 65 tonnes of hake (stock HKE/571214) and 40 tonnes (stock HKE/*8ABDE). These quantities are distributed among vessels in the fleet operating under Order APM/920/2017 (art. 8.4.d of Order APA/315/2020).

In 3 key points

  1. Swap of 65 t of grenadier LIN/6X14 for 65 t of hake HKE/571214 (Annex I) (Anexo I)
  2. Swap of 65 t of grenadier LIN/*04-C for 40 t of hake HKE/*8ABDE (Annex II) (Anexo II)
  3. One-month period to lodge an administrative appeal before the Minister (art. 121 and 122 Law 39/2015) (art. 121 y 122 de la Ley 39/2015)

How it affects those involved

For deep-sea, high-sea, and longline vessels (greater or less than 100 gross tonnes) operating in the North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission, the effect is a modification of their individual fishing quotas (art. 8.4.d of Order APA/315/2020). Certain vessels will see a reduction in their grenadier catch capacity to increase hake capacity, or vice versa, as specified in the resolution's annex. Affected parties have one month to lodge an administrative appeal (recurso de alzada) if they deem it necessary (art. 121 and 122 of Law 39/2015).
