Fishing fleets: distribution of 6,801.687 tonnes of western chub mackerel quota for the 2026 season

The General Secretariat for Fisheries is distributing the total quota of 6,801.687 tonnes allocated to Spain for the western chub mackerel stock (JAX/2A-14) for 2026. The allocation follows the criteria set out in Order APA/315/2020, prioritising the needs of various fleets (Art. 12). The quota comprises the initial allocation, surpluses from the 2025 inter-annual flexibility, and exchanges with other Member States.

How it affects those involved

For the Cantabrian and North-West (CNW) purse seine fleet, 500 tonnes are allocated to zone 8b and 3,000 tonnes to division 8c under special conditions (Art. 12.3.b and 12.3.c). The offshore, deep-sea, and longline fleets are allocated 200 tonnes to operate in the NEAFC zone, with a landing limit of 5,000 kg per vessel per haul to prevent bottlenecks caused by landing obligations. Additionally, 1,500 tonnes for targeted fishing of this stock are allocated to the offshore and deep-sea fleets.
