Updated distribution rules for the Contentious-Administrative Section of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Court of First Instance

The Governing Council of the High Court of Justice of the Canary Islands has established the distribution rules for the Contentious-Administrative Section of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Court of First Instance (Art. 5). The regulation defines direct assignment criteria for electoral processes and related interim measures (Art. 1), as well as a random distribution system for other matters such as taxation, urban planning, public procurement, and immigration (Art. 2).

In 3 key points

  1. Electoral appeals are assigned to a single seat per process on a correlative basis (Art. 1.A) (art. 1.A)
  2. Matters exceeding 30,000 euros are processed via ordinary proceedings (PO) (Guidelines) (Pautas)
  3. Personnel and immigration matters are always processed via abbreviated proceedings (PA) (Guidelines) (Pautas)

How it affects those involved

For litigants before this court, the regulation ensures predictability in the assignment of cases. Electoral processes and those involving prior interim measures are subject to direct assignment (Art. 1). For matters exceeding 30,000 euros, cases will be processed via ordinary proceedings (PO), except for personnel and immigration matters, which will always follow abbreviated proceedings (PA) regardless of the amount (Guidelines).
