Banana plantations: definition of assets, yields, and conditions for agricultural insurance

Order APA/462/2026 establishes the technical conditions, insurable assets, and prices for banana plantation insurance under the Combined Agricultural Insurance Plan (Art. 1). The regulation covers the production of both mother plants and daughter plants, as well as specific facilities such as greenhouses or irrigation networks (Art. 1.1 and 1.2). These conditions will also apply to the Forty-Eighth Combined Agricultural Insurance Plan.

In 3 key points

  1. Mother plants, daughter plant production, and certain facilities such as greenhouses or irrigation networks are insurable, Art. 1.1 and 1.2 (art. 1.1)
  2. Crops and facilities in a state of abandonment are excluded from coverage, Art. 1.3.a (art. 1.3.a)
  3. The order enters into force on the day following its publication, Second Final Provision (disp. final segunda)

How it affects those involved

For banana producers, the regulation defines which assets can be protected, explicitly excluding crops or facilities in a state of abandonment (Art. 1.3.a). Policyholders must ensure that their facilities (windbreaks, greenhouses, irrigation) meet the minimum specifications set out in Annex II to qualify for coverage (Art. 1.2). ENESA retains the authority to extend the subscription period or modify price limits under exceptional circumstances (Sole Additional Provision).
