Strawberry and berry producers: technical conditions and insurable assets for agricultural insurance

Order APA/461/2026 establishes the conditions for insurance covering strawberry and other berry farms within the Combined Agricultural Insurance Plan (Art. 1). It defines insurable assets as varieties of strawberry, garden strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, currant, and blackberry, whether grown under greenhouse, microtunnel, or open-field conditions (Art. 1.1). Furthermore, it regulates the minimum technical cultivation conditions, such as fertilisation, weed control, and phytosanitary treatments, required to maintain coverage (Art. 3.1).

In 3 key points

  1. Productions of strawberry, garden strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, currant, and blackberry are insurable (Art. 1.1) (art. 1.1)
  2. The insurance covers quantity and quality damage caused by the risks specified in Annex I (Art. 1.1) (art. 1.1)
  3. Facilities must meet the minimum characteristics set out in Annex II (Art. 1.3) (art. 1.3)

How it affects those involved

For berry farmers, the regulation conditions insurance coverage on strict compliance with cultural practices (Art. 3.1) and the correct classification of the cultivation system (Art. 2.14). Blueberry producers in Huelva are subject to a specific regime regarding greenhouse classification (Art. 1.1). Failure to comply with minimum technical conditions or facility specifications (Art. 3.1 and Art. 1.3) could compromise the validity of coverage in the event of a loss.
