The withdrawal and re-deposit of cash into a bank account do not, in principle, have tax implications for Personal Income Tax

A query is made as to whether withdrawing cash and subsequently depositing it back into the bank has effects on Personal Income Tax. The DGT responds that the movement of money has no tax implications, but warns that the origin of the funds must be proven upon deposit.

The question raised

Question posed: The tax treatment, under Personal Income Tax, of the withdrawal and re-deposit of cash into a bank account is queried.

The DGT's ruling

The performance of a withdrawal and a subsequent cash deposit into a bank account does not, in principle, have implications for Personal Income Tax pursuant to Article 6 of the LIRPF. Nevertheless, the body cannot qualify the tax consequences of the origin of said money. The taxpayer must prove the origin of the funds deposited into the bank account.
