Reinvestment exemption for primary residence requires necessary rather than voluntary relocation

A couple has enquired whether they can apply the primary residence reinvestment exemption when selling their home in the Balearic Islands to purchase another in Cantabria. The DGT clarifies that for those who have not resided in the property for three years, the move must be necessitated by a mandatory reason, whereas for those who have already held the property as their primary residence, the period to sell without losing the exemption is two years.

The question raised

The DGT's ruling
