Exemption for sale of main residence cannot be applied without holding full ownership for three years

A taxpayer over 65 inquired whether they could claim an exemption for the sale of an inherited property in which they had resided for many years. The DGT ruled that this is not possible, as for a property to be considered a main residence, the taxpayer must have held full ownership of it for at least three continuous years.

The question raised

The DGT's ruling
