Taxpayers cannot amend returns to apply main residence reinvestment exemption after opting for the general regime

A taxpayer sold their main residence in 2017 and paid capital gains tax, but purchased a new home in 2019 and sought to amend their 2017 return to apply the exemption. The Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) ruled that, as the exemption represents a choice between two different tax regimes, it cannot be changed once the filing period has expired.
