Businesses and individuals: 1 month to update official exchange rates in euros

The Bank of Spain resolution publishes euro exchange rates as of January 14, 2026, approved by the ECB, which now have official status (Art. 36 of Law 46/1998). These rates replace previous ones and must be used in financial operations, contracts, and official communications.

In 2 key points

  1. Official exchange rates are updated each time the ECB publishes new rates (Art. 36 Law 46/1998) (art. 36 Ley 46/1998)
  2. 1 euro = 1.1651 US dollars (and other rates detailed in the text) (cambios del euro)

How it affects those involved

Businesses and individuals carrying out international operations must update their exchange rate calculations to avoid errors in invoices, payments, or contracts. Financial institutions must update their internal systems. Finance advisors must inform their clients about the new rates. The foreign trade and financial services sectors are most affected by the need for immediate updates.
