Businesses and individuals: 1 month to update official exchange rates in financial records

The Bank of Spain publishes official exchange rates for the euro as of April 21, 2026, which are now valid for all financial records (Art. 36 of Law 46/1998). These rates replace previous ones and must be applied in currency conversion operations, especially in current accounts, international payments, and balance sheets.

In 2 key points

  1. The official euro exchange rates published by the ECB are updated daily and are considered valid from the day of publication (21/04/2026) (art. 36 Ley 46/1998)
  2. The exchange rates published in this resolution replace the previous ones for all financial purposes (art. 36 Ley 46/1998)

How it affects those involved

For businesses and individuals carrying out international transactions, it is mandatory to update their financial records with the new exchange rates from 21 April 2026. Public administrations and financial institutions must synchronise their calculation systems. Finance advisors and current account managers should review their calculations to avoid errors in payments or declarations. Errors in currency conversion may lead to discrepancies in tax or profit calculations.
