Businesses and individuals: One month to update official euro exchange rates

The Bank of Spain publishes the official euro exchange rates for 13 January 2026, approved by the ECB, which now have legal effect under Article 36 of Law 46/1998. These rates replace previous ones and must be used in official financial transactions, impacting all sectors involved in foreign exchange conversions, especially international trade, financial services, and foreign payments.

In 3 key points

  1. The official euro exchange rates are updated daily by the ECB (Article 36 of Law 46/1998) (art. 36 Ley 46/1998)
  2. 1 euro = 1.1654 US dollars (official rate as of 13/01/2026) (cambio 1 euro = 1,1654 dólares USA)
  3. The rates apply to official financial and commercial transactions (cambios del euro publicados por el BCE)

How it affects those involved

Businesses and companies carrying out international operations must update their foreign exchange calculations to avoid errors in pricing, costs or profits. Individuals making foreign currency payments or purchasing foreign goods should also use the new exchange rates. Financial institutions must adjust their internal systems and communicate the updated rates to their customers. Financial advisors must update their reference rates to provide accurate information.
