The Directorate General of the Merchant Navy has recognised the Laredo Port Vocational Training Centre as an authorised teaching institution for training leading to Merchant Navy professional titles and cards (Art. 60 RD 269/2022). This recognition covers intermediate and higher-level vocational cycles in machinery maintenance, navigation, and fishing, as well as various certificates of proficiency in accordance with the STCW Convention. This authorisation is subject to maintaining regulatory requirements and a five-year renewal process.
For students and professionals in the maritime and fishing sectors, the authorised centre provides an official route to obtain technical qualifications and certificates of proficiency (such as safety or firefighting training) under international STCW standards. For the training centre, the authorisation entails the obligation to apply for successive recognition extensions every five years (resolution of 18 March 2026).
