The General Secretariat for Fisheries has distributed Spain's 2026 quota for dentex, alfonsinos and black scabbardfish between the national fishing grounds fleet and those operating in NEAFC waters. The resolution establishes a 3% reserve of the total quota to compensate for potential overages (Art. 3.4 of Order APA/115/2008). The allocation is carried out on a quarterly basis, allowing unused quota from the first and second quarters to be transferred to the third, while deducting any excesses from the third quarter (Section Four).
For fleets in national fishing grounds (zones 8C and 9A) and those operating in NEAFC waters, the regulation sets the maximum catch limits for 2026, requiring the landing of all catches of these species (EU Regulation 1380/2013). The quarterly management system introduces a risk of quota reduction in the third quarter if excesses occur during the first half of the year. Fleets may lodge an administrative appeal (recurso de alzada) within one month (Section Four).
