Businesses and individuals: 3 months to update official exchange rates or deviation risks

The Bank of Spain's resolution publishes the euro exchange rates as of 26 March 2026 set by the ECB, which now take official effect under Article 36 of Law 46/1998. These rates replace previous ones and must be used in financial transactions, contracts, and tax declarations. The change applies to all users of exchange rates in the Spanish monetary system.

In 3 key points

  1. Official exchange rates are updated daily by the ECB (Article 36 of Law 46/1998) (art. 36 Ley 46/1998)
  2. 1 euro = 1.1539 US dollars (official rate as of 26/03/2026) (cambio 1 euro = 1,1539 dólares USA)
  3. All financial transactions must use the new official rates from the date of publication (art. 36 Ley 46/1998)

How it affects those involved

Businesses, individuals and public administrations carrying out international operations must update their exchange rate calculations from the date of publication. Financial advisers and account managers should review their procedures to ensure accuracy in declarations and payments. Using outdated exchange rates may result in fines or tax discrepancies. Companies operating in foreign currencies must verify their records and adjust their balances.
