Businesses and individuals: 3 months to update official exchange rates or deviation risk

The Bank of Spain's resolution publishes the official euro exchange rates for 18 March 2026 as set by the ECB, effective under Law 46/1998 (art. 36). These rates apply to all financial transactions in foreign currencies, used for amounts, interest rates and conversions. The published rates are final and must be applied from the day after publication in the BOE.

In 2 key points

  1. Official euro exchange rates are updated daily by the ECB and are considered official from the following day after publication (Art. 36 Law 46/1998) (art. 36 Ley 46/1998)
  2. The exchange rates published on 18 March 2026 (1 euro = 1.1500 US dollars, etc.) are final for financial operations from 19 March 2026 (texto fuente)

How it affects those involved

Traders, businesses and individuals conducting foreign exchange operations must update their pricing, tax and payment calculations using the new official exchange rates. Financial institutions must review their internal systems to ensure accurate conversions. Finance advisors and accountants must inform their clients of the change and adjust financial statements. Errors in applying the rates may lead to tax or payment discrepancies, posing a risk of administrative penalties.
