Businesses and individuals: 3 months to update official exchange rates or deviation risks

The Bank of Spain publishes the euro exchange rates as of March 10, 2026, approved by the ECB, which now have official effect under Article 36 of Law 46/1998. These rates replace previous ones and must be used in financial operations, contracts, and tax declarations. The change applies to all users of foreign currencies in Spain.

In 2 key points

  1. Official exchange rates are updated each time the ECB publishes new rates (Art. 36 Law 46/1998) (art. 36 Ley 46/1998)
  2. 1 euro = 1.1641 US dollars (official rate from 10 March 2026) (CAMBIOS)

How it affects those involved

Business owners, individuals and public administrations must update their financial calculations and contracts with the new official exchange rates from 10 March 2026. Financial advisors and accountants should review their reports and tax declarations. Traders operating in foreign currencies may experience changes to their profits or costs. Using outdated exchange rates could result in penalties or tax discrepancies.
