Municipalities receiving NextGen funds urged to strengthen control and strategic planning for digital projects

The Joint Committee for Relations with the Court of Auditors has adopted the findings of the audit report on 2021 grants for the digital transformation of local entities under the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. The resolution urges the Government to simplify procedures and extend execution deadlines, and calls on municipalities to improve the rigour of project selection and execution monitoring to prevent the loss of funding (points 3 and 5).

In 3 key points

  1. Urging local entities to strengthen monitoring systems to prevent the loss of funding (point 5). (punto 5)
  2. Municipalities without a digital strategy must develop planning aligned with the Spain Digital Agenda 2025 (point 6). (punto 6)
  3. Urging provincial councils and autonomous communities to execute projects in municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants (point 6). (punto 6)

How it affects those involved
