The agreement to establish the convention allowing the Basque Autonomous Community to assume management of unemployment protection has been published, in accordance with the fifth transitional provision of the Statute of Autonomy for the Basque Country. This transfer is carried out within the framework of Royal Legislative Decree 8/2015 and the organisation of public employment services. The transfer of competencies is set to take effect on 1 January 2027.
For workers and citizens in the Basque Country, the management of unemployment benefits will fall under the jurisdiction of the regional administration from 2027. The State Administration is transferring these competencies to the Autonomous Community by virtue of the agreement reached by the Joint Transfers Commission.
