Businesses and individuals: one month to update official euro exchange rates

The Bank of Spain's resolution publishes the euro exchange rates from 28 January 2026 set by the ECB, which now take official effect under Article 36 of Law 46/1998. These rates replace previous ones and must be used in financial transactions, contracts, and official communications. The change affects all sectors using the euro as a reference currency.

  2. Exchange rates published come into official effect from 28 January 2026 (texto fuente)

How it affects those involved

Businesses, companies and individuals carrying out international transactions must update their foreign exchange calculations based on the new publication. Public administrations managing contracts in euros must also adjust their records. Financial advisers must inform their clients about the new exchange rates to avoid conversion errors. The risk of pricing or payment discrepancies increases if updates are not made in a timely manner.
