Aragon High Court of Justice: rules for the distribution of cases for 2026 established

The Governing Chamber of the High Court of Justice of Aragon has set the rules for the distribution of civil, criminal, and jurisdictional matters for the 2026 period. The agreement establishes independent shifts for cassation appeals, civil liability, criminal appeals, and jurisdictional issues, while also regulating the criteria for assigning reporting judges and substitutions (Agreement of the Civil and Criminal Chamber).

In 3 key points

  1. The distribution rules will come into effect from 1 January 2026, Validity of these rules (Vigencia de estas reglas)
  2. Separation of independent shifts for civil matters (cassation, review, exequatur) and criminal cases (appeals, liability of judges/prosecutors) (Acuerdo de la Sala Civil y Penal del Tribunal Superior de Justicia)
  3. The debate day will normally be Tuesday, unless the operation of the service advises otherwise (Día de debate)

How it affects those involved

For litigants and legal professionals operating within the jurisdiction of Aragon, these rules ensure predictability in the assignment of reporting judges and the structure of the distribution shifts for 2026. The regulation of substitutions due to dissenting opinions or incompatibilities, alongside the fixing of the debate day (typically Tuesdays), provides legal certainty to the Chamber's procedural calendar.
