Priorat and Conca de Barberà PDO producers: temporary reduction of minimum alcohol levels for the 2026/2027 campaign

The Catalan Wine Institute has approved a temporary amendment to the specifications for the Priorat and Conca de Barberà Protected Designations of Origin (PDO) for the 2026/2027 campaign. Due to climatic anomalies, such as excessive rainfall and extreme temperatures, a reduction is permitted in the minimum natural grape alcohol content and the minimum alcoholic strength acquired in certain white and rosé wines. This measure is authorised under Regulation (EU) 2024/1143 in response to adverse weather conditions.

In 2 key points

  1. Applicable to the 2026/2027 campaign, from 1 August 2026 to 31 July 2027 (texto fuente)
  2. Reduction of the minimum natural grape alcohol content and the acquired alcohol content in white and rosé wines (texto fuente)

How it affects those involved

For wine producers in the Priorat and Conca de Barberà PDOs, this measure allows them to meet the designation's quality requirements despite the low alcohol content caused by the climate (2026/2027 campaign). This prevents the loss of PDO certification for wines that would otherwise fail to reach the standard alcohol thresholds.
