Amateur radio operators: open-ended ordinary procedure for single-letter suffix call sign applications

This resolution establishes the ordinary administrative procedure for assigning amateur radio call signs with a single-letter suffix, replacing the previous system of specific procedures (Art. 27 of the Regulations approved by Order IET/1311/2013). The new model is characterised by a continuous open application period and assignment based on the order of submission, provided that seniority and practice requirements are met (Art. 27 of the Regulations).

In 3 key points

  1. Continuous open application period for call sign assignment (Resolución de 29 de julio de 2026)
  2. Requirement of 5 years of Spanish authorisation and 15 years of international practice (art. 27 del Reglamento aprobado por Orden IET/1311/2013)
  3. Assignment based on the order of application submission (Resolución de 29 de julio de 2026)

How it affects those involved

For amateur radio operators who meet the seniority requirements (5 years of Spanish authorisation and 15 years of international practice) and have no recent disciplinary proceedings, access to these call signs is facilitated through a permanent application period (Art. 27 of the Regulations). Assignment will no longer depend on specific calls for applications, but rather on the order in which applications are submitted relative to current demand, which is considered lower than availability (Resolution of 29 July 2026).
