Temporary ban on navigation and floating in the urban stretch of the Guadiana River in Badajoz due to safety risks

The Guadiana Hydrographic Confederation has temporarily prohibited all forms of navigation and floating in the urban stretch of the Guadiana River passing through Badajoz. This measure is a response to the risk of capsizing and entanglement in aquatic vegetation, identified following a report from the Badajoz Canoeing Club. The ban will remain in place until a technical assessment certifies that safety conditions are suitable for sporting activities.

In 2 key points

  1. Temporary ban on navigation and floating for all nautical activities in the urban stretch of the Guadiana River in Badajoz (Parte V)
  2. The ban will come into force on the day following its publication in the BOE (Resolución de 13 de julio de 2026)

How it affects those involved

For water sports users and canoeists in Badajoz, use of the urban river stretch is strictly prohibited due to life-threatening risks (Art. Part V). The measure does not affect the Confederation's vessels used for invasive species control or emergency services. The lifting of the restriction will depend exclusively on a technical safety assessment.
