Galician Government approves new Galician Nomenclátor to establish official forms for place names

The Nomenclátor of Galicia has been approved as a single body containing the official forms of place names within the community (Art. 1). This measure aims to restore historical heritage forms against Castilianised distortion and establishes the Galician form as the sole official version (Art. 1, Law 3/1983). The decree repeals the previous provincial nomenclátores for A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense, and Pontevedra (Art. 3).

In 3 key points

  1. The Galician form is the sole official form for place names in Galicia (Art. 1, Law 3/1983) (art. 1)
  2. Entry into force on the day following its publication in the DOG (Art. 4) (art. 4)
  3. Repeal of the provincial nomenclátores of A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense, and Pontevedra (Art. 3) (art. 3)

How it affects those involved
