Non-textile industrial crop producers: technical conditions and insurable assets for the Agricultural Insurance Plan

This Order defines the assets, insurable yields, and minimum technical cultivation conditions for insurance covering non-textile industrial crop holdings (Art. 1). The regulation is part of the 47th Combined Agricultural Insurance Plan and will also apply to the 48th Plan (Preamble). It establishes specific cultivation requirements for species such as saffron, hops, and tobacco to maintain insurance coverage (Art. 1.2, 1.3, and 1.4).

In 3 key points

  1. Insurable crops include poppy, caper, aloe vera, anise, saffron, sugar cane, lavender, hops, among others (Art. 1.1). (art. 1.1)
  2. For hops, shoot removal and defoliation are mandatory when the plant reaches a height of 3 to 3.5 metres (Art. 1.3.b). (art. 1.3.b)
  3. Saffron requires planting in land with previous crops other than potato and horticultural crops (Art. 1.2.a). (art. 1.2.a)

How it affects those involved

For industrial crop farmers (such as poppy, lavender, tobacco, or hops), the regulation imposes strict compliance with cultural practices and technical conditions to guarantee the validity of insurance coverage (Art. 1). Failure to perform tasks such as trellising, phytosanitary treatments, or specific pruning in hops may compromise compensation in the event of a loss (Art. 1.1 and 1.3). Saffron producers must ensure specific crop rotations and corm disinfection (Art. 1.2).
