Forest producers: new base materials for reproductive forest material production added in the Valencian Community

The Directorate General for Biodiversity, Forests and Desertification has updated the National Catalogue of Base Materials by including new forest species under the 'identified' category from the Valencian Community (Art. 7.2 Royal Decree 289/2003). The resolution publishes registered materials for species such as Ilex aquifolium, Juglans regia, Juniperus oxycedrus, Olea europaea, Populus alba, Quercus ilex, and Taxus baccata in the province of Alicante.

In 2 key points

  1. Inclusion of new seed sources for species such as Ilex aquifolium and Juglans regia in Alicante (relación adjunta)
  2. Materials are integrated into the 'identified' category pursuant to Royal Decree 289/2003 (art. 7.2 Real Decreto 289/2003)

How it affects those involved

For producers of reproductive forest material (RFM), the resolution expands the availability of identified-origin base materials in the Alicante area, allowing the use of new seed sources for multifunctional forestry. This facilitates the procurement of native or identified genetic material for commercial production in accordance with Royal Decree 289/2003.
