Firms and individuals: one month to update official exchange rates in financial records

The Bank of Spain's resolution publishes new euro exchange rates effective 2 June 2026, now officially recognised (Art. 36 of Law 46/1998). These rates must be incorporated into financial records and pricing systems used by firms and individuals dealing in foreign currencies. The current official rate system updates automatically with these published values.

In 2 key points

  1. Official exchange rates are updated on 2 June 2026 and have legal validity (Art. 36 Law 46/1998) (art. 36 Ley 46/1998)
  2. New exchange rates must be incorporated into the financial records of companies and individuals (art. 36 Ley 46/1998)

How it affects those involved

Companies managing foreign exchange operations must update their exchange rates in financial systems within the next 30 days to avoid errors in cost, revenue or tax calculations. Individuals carrying out foreign exchange purchases or sales must also use these official rates to ensure the accuracy of their records. Financial advisers must ensure that their clients use the official exchange rates published by the Bank of Spain.
