Businesses and individuals: One month to update official euro exchange rates

The Bank of Spain's resolution publishes the official euro exchange rates for 20 May 2026 as set by the ECB, effective under Law 46/1998 (art. 36). These rates apply to all sectors using official exchange rates for financial or commercial operations such as invoicing, international payments or cost calculations. The published rates must be used from that date.

In 2 key points

  1. 1 euro = 1.1600 US dollars (official rate from 20/05/2026) (CAMBIOS)
  2. Official rates published by the ECB have legal effect pursuant to Article 36 of Law 46/1998 (art. 36 Ley 46/1998)

How it affects those involved

Businesses, companies and individuals carrying out international transactions must update their foreign exchange calculations from 20 May 2026. Authorities and financial managers must incorporate the new exchange rates into their invoicing and payment processes. Finance advisors should inform their clients of the updated official rates to prevent calculation errors. The change does not introduce new obligations, but rather requires an update of existing data.
